Not all cotton is created equal. We chose organic cotton for our tea towels and tote bags because it's free of genetic modification and grown without the use of pesticides, so it doesn't harm beneficial insects such as pollinators.
Organic farming focuses on building healthy soil, which stores carbon and increases doubt resilience. ACO Certified organic farms are required to have and maintain a minimum of 5% of their farmland dedicated to biodiversity areas.
One of the advantages of growing organic cotton is that none of the plant is wasted. The cotton seeds can be used to feed animals or to create cottonseed oil, and the stalks are tilled back into the soil after harvest.
Cotton is strong and durable, and unlike synthetic fibres such as nylon, cotton doesnāt release microplastics when itās washed. Organic cotton is also naturally compostable, and has a 91% lower water consumption than cotton grown with heavy use of pesticides.
The organic cotton fabric is made in India, and printed in Australia with water based ink. The band is made from 100% post-consumer waste paper.
The lifecycle of this product is carbon offset (carbon neutral) through our donation to the Yarra Yarra Biodiversity Corridor. An additional 10% of profit is donated to care for native wildlife and restore habitat. Every order grows a native tree in Australia, through our donation to Trees For Life.
Closing the Loop
Please think of reusing, repairing or upcycling first before disposing. The cardboard band is 100% recyclable. Organic cotton is a naturally compostable material. To dispose you can cut it up into pieces as small as possible and bury, or mix into your home compost.
